Case Study: The importance of implementing new content on your site

Client: www.clowningaround.co.za Date: 11/11/2009 14:30

View Case StudyClowning Around is a small business in a fairly small market. The webpage was launched on the 1 March 2008 SEO ready. With all the requirements for SEO met, Google was able to index the page in 6 days (it usually takes 2 weeks). By 10 March 2008 about 15 visitors a day started to trickle in (all from search engines)

In order for more keywords to be indexed by Google, more content was required on all pages of the website (at the time, there were 5 pages). 2 pages were added on the 1 April 2008 and a further 5 pages were added on the 14 April 2008. As expected, there was a significant increase in traffic after the additional pages and content were added.

To increase the amount of traffic and overall popularity of the website, some article marketing was required. On the 5 May 2008 a single article was posted to about nine different article sites. A link to the Clowning Around website was placed in each article and the article was submitted to the category “Kids & Teens”.

Keyword Approach

The approach used for this website was to be listed under as many industry-related keywords as possible (broad reach). These kewords did not necessarily have to be #1 result under the search - our target was to get them on the first 2 results pages in Google.

Many companies claim that they can position you within the first five results by using a handful of keywords. There is little to no benefit in this. Who is to say that the person looking for your industry has those few keywords in mind.

The DiscoverSEO Approach: As shown with Clowning Around we managed to target some 397 keyword phrases. (update: since this case study was created the amount has increased to 3124 keyword phrases targeted) ALL keywords we listed ranked in the top 2 pages. With this broadreach approach Clowning Around out performed other “Kids & Teens” sites by 385%
